We worked hard in July – there were 17 of us, between professionals, trainees, students and volunteers, working in the Community Music groups (Saida and Beddawi) in psycho-social music support (Baalbek), and in music therapy (Beirut and Saida).
We worked hard … but we received much more … from more than 100 children, adolescents and student volunteers, who studied and played with us.
Here are just a few moments …
Thanks, as always to Welfare Association Lebanon for supporting the project.
Our Summer program in Lebanon with Beit Atfal Assumoud is underway, with a 3-day training in psycho-social music interventions, facilitated by Deborah Parker, which brings together music teachers and students from the M&R project in Saida, Beddawi and Baalbek, Al Kamanjati project Beirut, Rashedie Music project, and KG teachers from many centres. Thanks, as always to Welfare Association Lebanon for the essential financial support!
Our Community Music team arrives Saturday to begin the Summer worshops and Music Camp – stay with us for more news soon!
Our April trip focussed on activities with the Beddawi and Saida Community Music groups of Beit Atfal Assumoud بيت اطفال الصمود, providing training workshops directed to the most advanced studentvolunteers, who are learning the basics to teach to the youngest students of the project.
Training and workshops also continued in the Baabek Assumoud Centre in Wavel camp, for the psycho-social music program there.
Thanks to Taawon Lebanon مؤسسة التعاون – لبنان for their support and the field visit to our music project!
In 2018 M&R completes its 7th year of continuous support and action for the development of music resources as a protection factor for the young generations of the Palestinian and other refugee communities in Lebanon. The prime actors of the project, Prima Materia and NISCVT, are supported by a large circle of associates, friends, donors, volunteers and sponsors, without which the project could not happen, and to which we express our sincere thanks. In particular, our thanks go to the main sponsor of the project – ‘Taawon’ Lebanon (Welfare Assocation) – and also to Ulaia ArteSud (Rome) through funds made available by the Waldensian Church Foundation Italy, for the support of the music therapy professional training in Assisi.

The 2 Assumoud psychologists, Mohamad Orabi and Liliane Younes, have just completed their 2nd year of training at the Music Therapy School of Assisi. Assisted and tutored by Deborah Parker, they attended the 15 day intensive residential course, and passed all the exams for the 1st year subjects with high marks.
Prima Materia and Beit Atfal Assumoud wish to thank Ulaia ArteSud Onlus, Rome, for the precious financial support through its project “Band Without Borders”, funded by the Waldensian Church Foundation.
We wish also to thank the Centro Educazione Permanente ‘La Citadella’ Assisi and the staff of the ‘Corso Quadriennale di Musicoterapia’, for the warm reception of the 2 students from Lebanon, and considerable organizational, logistic and economic support during their training course.
We have just embarked on a new voyage, thanks to a UE funded Erasmus+ project coordinated by the International Music Council (France) for the development of an online resource centre and specialized training course for psycho-social music interventions in deprived and marginalised communities, in Europe and beyond.
We are proud to participate in a very strong partnership, together with IMC, Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy (UK), Moviment Coral Catalan (Spain), Euridea Education Agency (Italy) and of course our Palestinian partner NISCVT ‘Beit Atfal Assumoud’ (Lebanon).
