Who and how is helping us

Thank you Cheap Street Church!

         Assumoud Kindergarten teachers in music training with PM, July 2018

In August we received a further, generous donation from our friends in Sherborne (Dorset), UK, through the Cheap Street Methodist Church committee, to help us to continue “Music and Resilience”. Our warmest thanks to everyone who contributed.

4 Prima Materia professionals are planning the next visit to Lebanon in mid October, combining follow-up, evaluation and 2019 planning meetings with specific actions:

  • music therapy coordinator Deborah Parker will be presenting a paper at the NISCVT Annual Mental Health Conference, 19-20 October 2018 at the American University Beirut;
  • vocal trainer Emiliano Nigi will run a conference workshop, and give 2 days training to NISCVT workers;
  • community music coordinator Henry Brown will begin a training program for the student volunteers in Saida and Beddawi centres, to equip them for peer-to-peer education within the community music groups;
  • coordinator and documentation manager Dario Gentili will be collecting material for a forthcoming documentary on how the project has developed during the past 3 years.

Keep supporting us – all contributions represent vital sustenance for M&R – Thank you!

Music & Resilience 17-18 Annual Report

WhatsApp Image 2018-06-30 at 22.16.56.jpegIn 2018 M&R completes its 7th year of continuous support and action for the development of music resources as a protection factor for the young generations of the Palestinian and other refugee communities in Lebanon. The prime actors of the project, Prima Materia and NISCVT, are supported by a large circle of associates, friends, donors, volunteers and sponsors, without which the project could not happen, and to which we express our sincere thanks. In particular, our thanks go to the main sponsor of the project – ‘Taawon’ Lebanon (Welfare Assocation) – and also to Ulaia ArteSud (Rome) through funds made available by the Waldensian Church Foundation Italy, for the support of the music therapy professional training in Assisi.

It’s all happening now!

A small window on the extensive Summer Music program now taking place in the refugee camps of Beddawi, Wavel and in Saida, involving around 60 Palestinian and Syrian children and adolescents. This year the team of 16 music teachers, facilitators and students comes from Italy, France, Spain and UK, including trainees from our Erasmus Plus project MARS.

Many more photos and stories are available here.

A special thank-you to our friends and sponsors who have donated funds and instruments from all over Europe and beyond – your contribution is essential and you are all with us in mind and heart.

Our crowd funding is still active for any other supporters to join the M&R club!

Fund raising evening for M&R

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our “Serata Palestinese” on 18th March; a highly enjoyable evening with presentation conference, a delicious Arabic supper, and lots of music.

Funds raised will go towards covering the live costs of  this year’s project actions, the next of which starts next week: a 10-day Community Music workshop in Beddawi and Saida refugee camps, led by Prima Materia and supported by MARS training students from Italy, Spain and UK.

Here is the full report of our actions in 2016: we invite you to read what we were able to achieve in the Music Therapy and Community Music programs, and how much it meant for some of the children involved: mr-full-report-for-sponsors-and-donors-nov-2016

Thank you, as always, to our many sponsors and donors, who enable us to continue this work; institutional funding is harder and harder to find, and we rely on the initiative of well-wishers in their continued support.

You can donate via our crowd-funding campaign – thank you!
